Project Name: Beverage Distribution Center Parking Lot

Project Location: Retalhuleu, Guatemala

Project Overview:

In Retalhuleu, Guatemala, a prominent beverage distribution center faced a major challenge: their parking area was unusable during the rainy season. Frequent flooding and weak subgrades made it impossible for trucks to access the lot without delays or damage. To improve logistics and build a resilient, all-weather parking lot for heavy vehicles, the project team selected the GEOWEB Load Support System – a proven solution for stabilizing soft soils in truck and heavy container parking lots.

Challenge: Unstable Soils and Frequent Flooding Blocked Truck Access

The distribution center site lacked project drainage, and the saturated soils could not support required vehicle loads. During rainy months, this led to rutting, washouts, and delayed shipments. Traditional paving methods were not ideal for the low-lying location. The site needed a permeable truck parking solution that could manage stormwater, support heavy vehicle loads, and remain stable through seasonal weather extremes.

Solution: Geocell Load Support System Stabilizes Parking Lot

Project owners chose the GEOWEB Soil Stabilization System for its ability to reinforce soft, flood-prone soils and create a stable, long-lasting surface for heavy truck traffic. Installed by A y S Construcciones across 3,700 square meters (approximately 39,800 square feet) of parking area, the system provided a reliable foundation that addressed both the structural and drainage challenges on-site.

The GEOWEB Geocell sections were secured using patented ATRA® Keys, part of the most complete geocell system on the market. These high-strength polymeric connectors create a secure, permanent load-transfer connection between panels and are designed to perform in demanding environments. Made from corrosion-resistant material, ATRA Keys maintain their integrity even when exposed to moisture, chemicals, or extreme weather. This helps ensure long-term system stability.

To help organize parking and improve safety on-site, the project team installed delineators made from oversize paver blocks that were mortared together and painted yellow for visibility.

Project Results

The newly stabilized parking area now provides year-round access for heavy-duty delivery vehicles, even during Guatemala’s rainy season. The GEOWEB Load Support System created a long-term solution without the cost or environmental disruption of deep excavation or rigid pavement.

Why Choose GEOWEB Geocells for Truck Parking Lots?

This project shows how the GEOWEB Soil Stabilization System helps logistics facilities and commercial operations build truck parking lots on weak or saturated soils without sacrificing performance. It’s ideal for distribution centers, warehouse yards, trailer storage lots, and any site where heavy-duty vehicle access is needed.
